Panama-Marquesas, week 2

It’s day 17 of what’s likely to be a 30-40 day passage. We passed the halfway point around midnight on Sunday night. We’re closer to Hiva Oa than to Panama!

Miles sailed: 2151

Engine hours: 35

Fish landed: 1 gorgeous mahi mahi that has fed us 4 meals so far . . .

Sail changes made: at least 100

Flying fish found dead on the side deck: 5

Highlights this past week:

  • Catching the mahi mahi

  • Halfway point celebration dinner

  • 3 days of over 150 miles a day

Gear issues:

  • Main halyard chafed through, dumping the main right at sunset on March 15 (temporary fix installed the next morning)

  • Fridge internal fan stopped working, so Jeremy replaced it

We’re (generally) sleeping well, (usually) eating well, (frequently) sailing well, and smiling a lot. It’s not always comfortable, and not always easy.

But it’s pretty amazing.

Full moon rising

1900 miles to go to Hiva Oa, Marquesas

PS. I’m sending out daily emails about the passage. If you’d like to receive these, send me an email at nicawaters@gmail.com
