I’m Nica Waters. My husband, Jeremy, and I have owned our 28’ Bristol Channel Cutter, Calypso, since 1992. We’ve extensively cruised her twice, from 1994-1997 and then again (with 2 kids on board) from 2009-2010; we’re methodically adding to that in smaller dose. like 6 months in the Eastern Caribbean from December 2022 to May 2023, and 3 months in the Bahamas in early 2024. As of November 2024, we’re in West Palm Beach on Calypso, looking for a weather window to get to first the Bahamas and then Panama. Mischief, our second Bristol Channel Cutter, is shrink wrapped in Deltaville, Virginia, patiently awaiting our return. I’ve cruised as part of a young couple (with a dog on board!), part of a family of 4, and just the two of us as 50-somethings on board. You may well be planning to cruise on a larger boat; my advice will pertain to you no matter the boat size.

My passions are teaching, food, fitness, and cruising; I love nothing better than helping people figure out their next steps to heading off on a water-based adventure.

Ways to pick my brain about all things cruising.

1. Listen to the weekly podcast, read the blog, watch any of the many videos (mostly food).

2. Subscribe for any of the newsletters.
