Egg ham bagel breakfast sandwich - a Tasty Thursday post
Here in Charlottesville, we have Bodos Bagels, a beloved institution that serves up fresh bagels, sandwiches, and salads (plus some other things) on a daily basis. Their egg sandwiches are legendary in our family - hot egg and some kind of deli meat, topped with cheese that's not quite melting, on a hot-out-of-the-oven bagel. Oh man.
But there are mornings when the idea of getting in the car is so abhorrent, and the call of the sandwich so great, that there's nothing for it but to create my own version. Not quite the same thing, but close. Really close.
Bagel kind, meat kind, cheese kind, and other toppings are totally up to you.
Egg ham bagel sandwich (serves 1)
- ham
- cheese
- egg
- bagel
1. Heat bagel in the oven, or toast it LIGHTLY.
2. Cook ham in a small skillet, topped with cheese, until the cheese is melted and the ham is cooked all the way through. Remove it to one half of that bagel.
3. Cook the egg (suggestion is to break the yolk with a quick prick) in the hot skillet, flavored by the yummy ham drippings. Remove to the top of the ham/cheese stack.
4. Top with the other half of the bagel. If you like cream cheese on your sandwich, smear some on. If you like a slice of tomato or avocado, same thing.
