Solar oven rolls - a Tasty Thursday galley edition
Bread is magic. Four simple ingredients, a little bit of time, and some heat - and presto, you've got crusty deliciousness that'll warm your heart and your belly.
Cook it with the sun? Bring on the Hogwarts level magic!
I know you might not have a solar oven, and this might just be an intellectual exercise - but this recipe for the dough makes amazing rolls and pizza crust in a regular oven. Worth making and having on hand for when the urge for fresh bread hits!
Recipe: (makes a LOT; you can halve the amounts easily)
- 13 cups flour (my go-to is King Arthur bread flour. If you want whole wheat, sub up to half the amount with whole wheat flour)
- 3 TBS yeast
- 3 TBS salt
- 6 cups lukewarm water
- Mix all ingredients together in a large container that has a top. You're after eliminating pockets of flour. No kneading required!
- Let sit on the counter, covered loosely, for up to 10 hours.
- Cover and refrigerate until ready to use!
