Pizza croutons - a Tasty Thursday post!
I admit it. I hate cold pizza.
Okay, "hate" is too strong a word. I strongly dislike cold pizza. Sure, I'll eat it, under duress and with gratitude that there is something to eat, but given my preference I'll heat it up first before gobbling it down.
Microwaving pizza is one half-step up from eating it cold. Soggy, lifeless. No mouth excitement at all in that version.
The oven is a great way to heat up pizza. It drives Jeremy nuts that I heat up the pizza straight on the oven racks, no pan required - he doesn't appreciate the crispy crust that results from the air being able to circulate around the slice of cheesy goodness. I don't pay a lot of attention to the drips of that same gooey cheese onto the oven floor. We all have our issues.
But what if you only have a piece or two left? Not enough for a snack, even. Certainly not enough for a family of 4 with 2 hungry teenagers.
Ah, pizza croutons to the rescue! Heat those pizza slices in a non-stick skillet. Get the crust shatteringly crispy. And chop them up and sprinkle over salad.
You'll never see pizza leftovers the same way again.
PIZZA CROUTONS
Heat leftover pizza slices in a non-stick skillet until crispy and melted. I start with a cover on, then remove it once the cheese has begun to melt. Takes about 8-10 minutes total.
Chop up the slices and sprinkle over salad. (I dress the salad first, usually, to keep the croutons crispy.) Try not to eat them before you serve the salad. <3
